MOUNDS VIEW, Minn. – In light of the problems its telecom firm Convergent Communications is having, Liberty announced today that it has formed a telecommunications agreement with MCI-WorldCom in order to ensure its Liberty Cavion CU customers uninterrupted service. Michael J. Provenzano, Liberty's EVP of Internet Applications, said Liberty Cavion customers will be getting a new MCI-WorldCom frame-relay circuit installed within the next 30 to 60 days. Convergent Communications has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. MCI-WorldCom served as Convergent's upstream provider. "In the upcoming weeks, a Liberty Cavion representative will be contacting each of our customers to set up a time to switch the old and new circuits and verify that all services are maintained," said Provenzano. "There is no charge for the upgrade and there should be no interruption of service to our credit union customers," said Provenzano. "Our credit union partners can expect a call from the local telecom provider alerting them that a new circuit will be delivered soon." "The new service contracts with MCI-WorldCom will enable us to maintain quality service to our customers," said Provenzano. Liberty bought Cavion earlier this year. It now serves nearly 100 credit unions with secure Internet communications and Web-based products and services such as Internet banking.
