CARSON CITY, Nev. – the state legislature has approved legislation backed by the Nevada Credit Union League that will allow the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles to accept electronically transmitted documents such as registration and licensing forms. By streamlining the DMV's motor vehicle registration and record keeping system, S.B. 524, sponsored by the Senate Transportation Committee and supported by DMV, will benefit financial institutions including credit unions, banks and savings associations, as well as automobile dealerships and Nevada residents. S.B. 524 will relieve all financial institutions in the state of cumbersome paperwork, said Ron Fong, assistant state legislative director for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues. Nevada currently has a paper-based vehicle registration and titling system. Financial institutions in the state have to fill out all registration and titling forms when they complete an auto loan and send the paperwork to the DMV. The agency then processes the forms and send them back to the financial. S.B. 524 eliminates that paperwork. S.B. 524 now awaits Gov. Kenny Guinn's signature. He is expected to sign the bill into law.
