MADISON, Wis. – Three CUNA Mutual Group executives spent a week in China recently where they visited with Chinese officials about the possibility of CUNA Mutual providing insurance for China's credit cooperatives. The CUNA Mutual execs included President/CEO Mike Kitchen; Ralph Swoboda, vp of international affairs; and Lon Sprecher, head of international development. The trio visited with officials in Beijing and Shanghai. Though details of the trip were very sparse at press time. The visit supposedly revolved around CUNA Mutual providing insurance for China's credit cooperatives, according to Larry Blanchard, senior vice president of communications and public relations for CUNA Mutual Group. "The credit union system has been having discussions with China for 15 years that I know of, that their credit cooperatives ought to be more of a structure along credit unions lines. They're similar but different. We've been exploring that in these rounds of discussions," said Blanchard. CUNA Mutual does business in other countries, including Canada and Australia.
