US Federal Credit Union, Burnsville, Minn., has raised $5,180 during the Twin Cities Multiple Sclerosis Walk 2001, which supports research for the fight against MS. In addition, USFCU was the fifth largest corporate team to participate. The USFCU Walk Committee came up with unique ways to raise money including, Casual for a cause; Throw a pie at the Big Guy; and hosting a spaghetti lunch for employees complete with salad, dessert and Frank Sinatra crooning on the stereo. Over 30 employees registered to walk the over seven-mile course. USFCU has $360 million in assets and serves over 77,000 members. Merck, Sharp & Dohme Federal Credit Union, North Wales, Pa., has raised over $8,000 during its Cow Plop event for Manna on Main St., a charity that offers a food pantry, heating and medical assistance to needy families. A field at the Montgomery County 4-H Center was divided into 3×3 foot pieces of property, which were "sold" for a $10 donation. A cow was sent out to pasture and whoever "owned" the property upon which the cow did its business, was declared to be the winner. Despite an uncooperative cow, the winner was determined by random drawing, a total of 1,008 deeds were sold for $10,080. MSDFCU member Gerald Devose Jr. was the lucky winner and received 20% of deed sales, which totaled $2,016. Manna on Main St. plans to use the $8,064 donated for its medical assistance program. Rogue Federal Credit Union, Medford, Ore., employees have donated their time and blood during the Saturn dealerships "National Donor Day." Marathon Media was present throughout the day broadcasting over five radio stations to encourage people to stop in, donate blood and be tested for bone marrow type. In addition to volunteering their time to help with registration and coordination of the flow of people through the donor stations, 14 employees became blood donors. Overall 60 units of blood were collected and 23 people were tested for bone marrow type.
