WASHINGTON-Four of the nine open seats on the 24-person CUNA board are contested seats. The remaining five candidates running are uncontested. For District 1, which includes New England, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, there is a contested seat representing credit unions under 10,000 members. Thomas J. O'Neil, president and CEO of Greater Watertown Federal Credit Union in Watertown, Conn., is running against Hershey Federal Credit Union President and CEO Diana Roberts of Hershey, Pa. for a three-year term. Also in District 1, John Murphy, president and CEO of the Maine Credit Union League, is running uncontested for league board members. Tom Dorety, president and CEO of Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union in Tampa, Fla., is running against Truliant Federal Credit Union President and CEO Marcus Schaefer in Winston-Salem, N.C. for a seat representing credit unions with more than 40,000 members in the Southeast. In District 4 for credit unions with less than 10,000 members, there is a four-way race for the board seat. Seat candidates include Gail Clore, president and CEO of Micro Switch Employees Credit Union; Rolla Federal Credit Union President and CEO Janet Craig; Connie Taylor, president and CEO of Rockford Community Federal Credit Union; and Patricia Wesenberg, president and CEO of Point Plus Credit Union. District 4 covers the mid-West. Representing credit unions between 10,000 and 40,000 members in District 6 on the West Coast, American Samoa, and Guam, Point Mugu Federal Credit Union President and CEO Ron McDaniel and Lynne Fletcher, president and CEO of People's Community Credit Union, are contenders. Also, West Virginia Credit Union League President and CEO Kenneth Watts, Toledo Area Catholic Credit Union President and CEO Patrick McGrady, Clinchfield Federal Credit Union President and CEO Sandy Lingerfelt, and Chris Jillson, president and CEO of Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union are running for uncontested seats. Ballots were sent out June 20 and are due back July 25. CUNA board members can serve three consecutive three-year terms.
