MidWest Financial Credit Union, Ann Arbor, Mich., in conjunction with the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation has awarded $1,000 educational scholarships to Lawrence Mailloux of Fenton High School and Robert Burns of Hampton University. Scholarship recipients were selected based on academic excellence, community/extracurricular involvement, and an essay response to this year's topic entitled "What I Want From My Electronic Credit Union". Mailloux plans to attend Michigan Technological University in the fall as a Chemical Engineering major. Burns, who completed his studies at Hampton University in May 2001 with an undergraduate degree in Business Management, will be attending the University of Southern California in August, participating in a 3-year Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. In addition, MidWest FCU has announced that Joseph and Michele Symk were the grand prizewinners of a seven-night vacation for two to Hawaii. As part of the credit union's effort to increase loan accounts, anyone who financed a new or used vehicle between March 1 and May 31, 2001 was eligible to win the trip. Over 120 entries were received. MidWest FCU has over 17,000 members and over $100 million in assets. Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union, has recently awarded $500 scholarships to seven outstanding high school seniors. These students were selected based on scholastic achievement and contributions to their school and community. This year's winners are Bernard Emmanuel Frost, Hanahan High School; Renae Ahring, Stall High School; Samantha Dhaenens, Walterboro High School; Tiffany M. Brown, Woodland High School; Elizabeth Tucker, Fort Dorchester High School; Amanda L. Rentz, Wade Hampton High School; and Anna Taylor, Andrews High School. Ohio Credit Union League Northwest Chapter, Toledo, has announced the 2001 Scholarship winners. An eight-person committee reviewed 173 applications. Essays were judged on clarity, quality of the essay and the applicant's answer to a posed question regarding credit unions. First place and winner of the $1,000 Scholarship is Chris Klosterman of Oregon, Ohio. Klosterman's winning scholarship application has been submitted to the Ohio Credit Union League for consideration in the statewide scholarship contest. The Ohio Credit Union League will award five scholarships of $1,000 A $750 scholarship was awarded to the second place winner, Philip Sanford and Lindsey Dartt was awarded the third place, $500 scholarship. EECU, Fort Worth, Texas, has announced the winners of its 2001 Glenn Mandeville Memorial Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarships are awarded annually to one female and one male high school senior pursuing a degree in education. This year's recipients are Anna Soule' and Keith Jackson. New Jersey Department of Transportation Credit Union, has awarded $1,500 in scholarships to two high school students. The two college bound freshmen were selected based on their academic performance, extracurricular and community activities, references and personal goals. First place winner Kristy Louise Miller has been awarded $1,000 and second place winner Todd Richebacher $500. NJDOT CU has over $74 million in assets and serves over 11,000 members. The scholarship provides a full year's subscription to the site which features marketing campaigns from credit unions across the country.
