Kirk Cuevas takes the leap. Cuevas, chief of staff and counsel to NCUA Acting Chairman Dennis Dollar, tied the knot Saturday, August 4 in his hometown of Gulfport, Mississippi. In the wedding, other than the blushing bride Alicia Malch, was Dollar as the best man, and Cuevas' brothers Korey and Kevin as the groomsmen. The wedding was a small formal affair with 50 guests aboard the dinner cruise ship, Starship. Cuevas and crew were concerned that the Starship wouldn't set sail because of the oncoming Tropical Storm Barry, but the cruise turned out to be smooth. Talk about a travelin' man. In his first five years with CUNA, Dan Mica has traveled almost everywhere in the U.S. as CUNA's President/CEO. That's almost. Mica has two states-which CUNA would like to keep anonymous-that he has yet to visit in his numerous journeys throughout the country. Mica is expected to visit those two states within the next two to three weeks. During the week, Michael Beam is a whiz with numbers. On the weekend, he's just a wizard. Beam is vice president of finance for Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union, Columbia, South Carolina. But he's also a professional magician, a veteran of the trade who has been performing for delighted kids of all ages (including grown-up ones) for more than 20 years. "There are two times I don't tell people I know sleight of hand. One is at work. The other is while playing cards," he quipped. After six years of working with the Children's Miracle Network, most recently as vice president of the organization, and supervising the organization's Credit Unions for Kids seven-person team, Mick Karls has opted to be a full-time parent for his 15-month old daughter Kylie. Karls is continuing to do consulting work for credit unions. His wife Tracie Karls, senior vice president of dues services with the Utah League of Credit Unions, is the new president/CEO of the Montana Credit Union Network, effective September 4. The Karls family plans to relocate to The Treasure State. Riley Smith from CMN has been named director of Credit Unions for Kids. Move over Emeril, there's a new chef in town. Food Network devotees can catch Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union President/CEO Paul Mayotte as guest chef in the fall lineup of Calling All Cooks. Mayotte and host Curtis Aikens served up a few traditional maple-syrup based meals including pork pieces, baked beans and Mayotte's own chicken wings and banana fritters.
