Heritage Community Credit Union, Sacramento, Calif., has raised $1,608 for Families United, a non-profit foster family agency that recruits and trains foster parents to care for children whose families can no longer do so. Families United also provides counseling services for the children and their foster families. To raise the funds, HCCU partnered with Entertainment Fund Raising, a nationwide organization that publishes discount/coupon books for local restaurants, hotels and other retail outlets. Members purchased over 200 books. HCCU has $172 million in assets and serves over 30,000 members. Baker Federal Credit Union, Phillipsburg, N.J., has held its first Family Fun Day for its young investors. Employees donated their time to convert the lobby and parking lot to a playground filled with farm animals; 4-H seeing eye puppies; a fire safety house; moon bounce; fire trucks; and other fun games. The Baker FCU Saving Safari Club mascot Sally the Saver was also on hand to help Scruff the Crime Dog talk about safety. In addition, the local police conducted free Kids Card Fingerprinting. Steel Works Community Federal Credit Union, Weirton, W.Va., has donated $1,000 to the West Virginia Credit Union Foundation to assist victims hit hardest by the recent flooding. The latest estimates disclose that close to 3,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed totaling more than $30 million in damages and over 500 people living in shelters. SWCFCU has over $194 million in assets.
