YUBA CITY, Calif. – Addressing the general concern among many volunteers that state league boards and policy committees representing credit union interests need better representation by volunteers, Sierra Central Credit Union, SAFE CU, Schools Financial CU and other Northern California CUs have been meeting to discuss the role of the volunteer in the current credit union movement. The issue, say the credit unions, is not about recruiting volunteers, term limits, or about the CEO's role in the credit union movement, but on how to get volunteers more involved in CU policy committees and in the governance of credit union associations. The concerned credit unions plan to host a "volunteer's roundtable" at the California Credit Union League's annual conference in October to discuss pertinent issues and to develop an action plan to help volunteers become more involved in the governance of the credit union movement.
