AUSTIN, Texas – Gov. Rick Perry has appointed James Burnett, a partner with the law office of Burnett, Trahan & Johnson, LLP, to the Texas Credit Union Commission, pending Senate confirmation. Burnett's appointment expires Feb. 15, 2007. The nine-member commission supervises the Texas Credit Union Department which oversees and regulates all state-chartered credit unions in Texas. Five members of the commission must be members of the general public. They cannot be employed by, participate in the management of, or have a financial interest in a financial institution or related trade association. The remaining four members must be a director, officer or committee member, with five or more years of active experience with a Texas state-chartered CU or federal CU with a principal office in Texas.
