Virginia Credit Union League Tidewater Chapter, has held a Legislative Night to honor legislators and educate candidates about credit unions. Held at the Nauticus Pavilion in Norfolk, legislators from all over the Tidewater area were in attendance and several gave rousting speeches about why they work on behalf of credit unions. While listening to political speeches, attendees dined on barbeque chicken. There were 105 credit union member present, representing 25 credit unions. Bell-Tel Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., has been named in the top 100 companies for Working Families for the second consecutive year. The credit union was selected by Central Florida Family magazine for its family-friendly programs offered to Bell-Tel CU's 125 employees. Bell-Tel serves over 48,000 members. Kansas Credit Union Association, Wichita, has announced that the following credit unions have turned 50 this year: New Century Credit Union; Rubber Workers Local 307 Federal Credit Union; Hi-Plains Bell Credit Union; Golden Plains Credit Union; and First Choice Credit Union. These credit unions were all honored during the KCUA 66th Annual Meeting and Convention for their achievements. Lockheed Georgia Employees' Federal Credit Union, Marietta, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The "golden" anniversary was marked by hosting a member service day at each of LGEFCU's metro Atlanta branches. Activities at the branches included the unveiling of a 50th anniversary logo, the sealing of a time capsule and a drawing for a trip for two to the 50th state. Special guests attending the festivities included Georgia Representative Bob Barr, Senator Max Cleland, governor Roy Barnes, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners and members of the Marietta City Council.
