Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., was the Gold Medal sponsor of the 2001 Capital District Special Olympics. CCFCU has participated in Special Olympics on the state level for the past four years, but this year marks the first local-level participation. Over150 athletes, coaches and 60 volunteers participated in the Track and Field events during the games. Nineteen CCFCU employees donated their time to the event. Utah League of Credit Unions, Salt Lake City, has donated $45,000 to the Primary Children's Medical Center. Credit unions raised the funds by making quilts, medical dolls, and various events held throughout the year. In addition, the League in conjunction with the Utah Family Involvement Council annually holds a volleyball tournament, bowl-a-thon, and a legislative dinner in order to raise funds for the hospital. The dinner offers credit unions a chance to buy a table at which a Utah legislator will sit during the course of the evening. Credit unions donated their time at the telethon as well. Joyce Swaner and KayLeigh Swaner, America First CU; Myron Denison, Cyprus CU; Marilyn Bown, Utah Power & Light Employees CU; and Marilyn Yoshida, Weber State CU all supported the telethon by answering calls and taking pledges. Hanscom Federal Credit Union, Bedford, Mass., has raised over $10,000 for the Children's Hospital Boston. HFCU raised the funds in support of Andy Martin, Jr., its Kids at Heart BAA Marathon "partner" and thousands of kids who, like him, rely on the outstanding services provided by Children's Hospital. HFCU has $268 million in assets and serves 30,088 members. Indiana Credit Union League, Indianapolis, has raised a record-breaking $107,828.75 for the Children's Miracle Network. Representatives of Indiana's credit unions appeared on a portion of the CMN telethon that was broadcast from James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Riley is the only CMN hospital in the state. Credit Unions for Kids is a national credit union effort to raise money for children's hospitals throughout the country. In Indiana, the Indiana Credit Union League organizes the program, which is open to participation by all 236 member credit unions. Education Credit Union Council, has donated more than 400 books and tapes to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, California. Each year a children's hospital in the city of ECUC's annual conference is selected as recipient of the "Books for Children" donations. More than 2,500 books have been donated during the six years the program has been sponsored. The Education Credit Union Council, Inc., is an association of credit unions that include educational communities within their fields of membership. Rouge Federal Credit Union, Medford, Ore., Thirty-five employees donated their time, sweat and muscle to landscape Bear Creek Skate Park. The project included moving hundreds of cubic yards of bark and mulch from a work area at Bear Creek Park and spreading it around the periphery of the skate area and in the large lower area by the entrance. RFCU has $205 million in assets, and serves over 32,836 members.
