LATHAM, N.Y.- At press time, credit unions have so far raised more than $1 million for relief efforts related to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. With $660,801 contributed to the New York Disaster Relief Fund and the National CU Foundation's CUs Rebuild America Fund balance at $353,078, help is still on the way for the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks as donations will be accepted until November 22. Designed to support widespread, non-credit union specific relief efforts, CURA donations will be split 75% to the Red Cross, which is focusing on such assistance as food, shelter, and medical care and 25% to the September 11th Fund, for such long-term support as mortgage payment assistance and relocation expenses. The NY Disaster Relief Fund donations will help the most severely impacted Manhattan credit unions, and their staff, volunteers, members and families who suffered losses. Since the tragedy has occurred, Credit Union Times has attempted to chronicle all donations that have been made by CUs that have been submitted to the newspaper.
