MADISON, Wis. – The CUNA Mutual Group Foundation has awarded more than $400,000 in grants. The nine recipients include the following organizations: United Way of Dane County in Wisconsin, $210,000; Waverly-Shell Rock Area United Way in Iowa, $11,300; United Way Mt. Baldy Region in California, $5,000; Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, $100,000; Common Wealth Development, Inc., for its Earn$ave initiative, designed to promote savings and financial literacy skills for youngsters from low-income families, $30,000; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Western Wisconsin Chapter, for its Walk to Cure Diabetes, which raises money for diabetes research, $20,000; New England Credit Union Foundation, to purchase a video projector and screen for its Credit Union Museum, $12,000; Four Lakes Council/Boy Scouts of America, for scholarships for campers who might not otherwise be able to attend camping activities and trips, $10,000; and $5,000 for the University of Wisconsin Foundation, for its Pre-College Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence Program, aimed at increasing college enrollment and graduation among Madison's ethnic minority and low-income students through extensive pre-college learning programs. Since 1996, the CUNA Mutual Group Foundation has donated nearly $1.2 million to the United Way of Dane County as part of its commitment to charitable activities in the greater Madison area.
