MSU Federal Credit Union, East Lansing, employees and members have donated their time to raise $455 for Ele's Place, a counseling center for grieving children. Working with the Lansing Chapter of Credit Unions, MSUFCU management volunteered to wash cars as part of the fundraising effort. A fun day was had by all as cars were cleaned and water fights broke out between managers and vice presidents. Other fundraising events included dress-down days and golf outings. Harborstone Credit Union, Tacoma, Wash., has raised $21,000 for the local March of Dimes. Harborstone Credit Union set a record this spring with its staff's total fundraising contribution of $21,000 to the local March of Dimes WalkAmerica event. Over the past 17 years the credit union's total contributions have exceeded $129,000- a record for the South Sound area in Tacoma, Washington. The $450 million credit union has provided a total company commitment to an annual fundraising effort that involves 90% of all staff in a wide variety of activities all designed to help raise needed funds to help prevent birth defects, infant mortality and prematurity. Bethpage Federal Credit Union, N.Y., has raised over $2,800 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during the annual Gelatin-jump fundraiser. Employees of BFCU held a fundraising contest to determine which executive would represent them at the event this year. Employees cast their votes by making monetary donations based on who they would like to see jump into the gelatin, either CEO Kirk Kordeleski or EVP Wayne Gross. Votes were too close to call so a tie was declared and both BFCU executives were elected to be this year's gelatin jumpers. Resplendent in grass skirts and straw hats, with a couple of coconuts thrown in for good-measure Kordeleski, and Gross, joyfully jumped into a pool filled with gelatin to raise money for those families whose lives are adversely affected by leukemia and lymphoma. Pennsylvania Credit Union League, Harrisburg, has joined forces with two groups, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Pennsylvania Builders Association, to co-sponsor a Habitat for Humanity dubbed the "House the House Built." The League donated $10,000 through the Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation to the Habitat for Humanity House and volunteers from the credit union community in the Harrisburg area contributed their time and energy to the project. The Foundation has signed three agreements with Habitat for Humanity to work on projects in Philadelphia, Harrisburg and the Allegheny Valley. Many of the studs used to frame the house bear the League's name as part of the $10,000 donation to the house. Rogue Federal Credit Union, Medford, Ore., employees have volunteered a weekend to help insure the safe return of Southern Oregon children in the event a child turns up missing or lost through Project KidCare. Volunteers photographed, thumb printed and assisted parents in recording important information and statistics which, when presented together as an ID Kit assists law enforcement officials in identifying and locating missing or lost children. Law enforcement agencies assert that the most important tool in recovering these missing children is a standardized, current photograph. The Project KidCare ID kit provides all this plus a thumbprint. According to the Department of Justice over one million children a year turn up lost or missing in the United States alone. Project KidCare, developed by the Polaroid Company and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, is designed to raise awareness of child safety and provide parents with an effective tool to aid law enforcement agencies in the event a search is necessary for their child. Nearly 600 children and their parents received the Project KidCare ID as Rogue Federal participated in the Kid's Day Event hosted by KTVL channel 10.
