New Hampshire Credit Union League, Concord, has teamed with kindergarten programs in five New Hampshire cities to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire's Adopt An Angel Program. To kickoff this year's Adopt An Angel fundraising activities, representatives of credit unions across New Hampshire visited kindergarten and daycare locations in Manchester, Pembroke, Gorham, Keene and Portsmouth bringing angels for the children to color. The angels that the youngsters colored and decorated are the paper angels that are now being displayed at credit unions throughout NH to help promote the Make-A-Wish Adopt An Angel program. This is the third consecutive year that the credit unions of New Hampshire are the official sponsors of this fundraising program that offers decorative paper angels for purchase as holiday decorations. The angels can top Christmas trees, adorn a holiday mantel or be the centerpiece for a family's holiday dinner table. Each angel includes a profile of a child Make-A-Wish serves, children who are seriously or terminally ill. Angels are available for $2.00 and all proceeds go to Make-A-Wish. Last year the league was able to generate nearly $16,000 through the sale of angels. Maine Credit Union League, Portland, has raised over $23,000 for its Ending Hunger campaign. All of the money raised goes directly to the campaign, which benefits hunger organizations and agencies throughout Maine. Since 1990, the Maine Credit Union Campaign for Ending Hunger has raised over $960,000 to help end hunger in the state. At this year's event, credit unions and other organizations from throughout New England hit the links during the annual golf tournament. The annual tournament, organized by the Norm Nolette Chapter of Credit Unions and TRICORP Federal Credit Union, is in honor of Norm Nolette who passed away in 1995. Nolette served as President of TRICORP and was active in the ending hunger campaign at the time of his sudden death. The Norm Nolette Chapter of Credit Unions is comprised of the following credit unions: Community Credit Union; Great Falls Regional Federal Credit Union; Lewiston Municipal Federal Credit Union; Maine Family Federal Credit Union; Monmouth Federal Credit Union; Otis Federal Credit Union; Oxford Federal Credit Union; Rumford Community Hospital Federal Credit Union; Rainbow Federal Credit Union; Sabattus Regional Credit Union; and Ste. Croix Federal Credit Union. Last year, Maine's Credit Unions and Partners In Ending Hunger, a Maine-based non-profit organization, awarded over $102,000 in grants. The grants are based on how much money a hunger organization raises during a ten-day period in November as part of Ending Hunger Month. Financial 21 Community Credit Union, San Diego, Calif., has recently participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. The event is an annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society's research, education, advocacy programs, and patient support programs. In addition to raising $3,203 in donations, over 35 Financial 21 staff took part in the 4.4 -mile walk to pay tribute to Barbara Hintz, former senior vice president of marketing/human resources. Barbara lost her battle with breast cancer last July. Financial 21′s efforts were featured on San Diego NBC television station's promotional coverage of the event.
