MADISON, Wis. – The North Dakota Credit Union League and the California Credit Union League have been chosen by CUNA's national awards committee to receive the first Desjardins Youth Financial Education Awards. The awards recognize leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of financial literacy, as well as the use of the NEFE High School Financial Planning Program.T The award is named in honor of Alphonse Desjardins, the founder of the North American credit union movement. The committee considers all activities supporting the personal finance education of young members and non-members. This includes face-to-face teaching, publicity, lobbying for curriculum requirements, teacher and volunteer training, and promotion and use of HSFPP. The awards will be presented at CUNA's 2002 GAC in conjunction with the Maxwell, Herring, and Bridge Awards.
