<p>CU Times Technology Correspondent COLUMBIA, S.C. – A major benefit of the Internet revolution for credit unions is the growing ability to provide a vast array of training across a far-flung operation, and do it consistently and efficiently. Lenore Froehlich knows that, and that's why Motorola Employees Credit Union-West is using its intranet to deliver training via computer to staffers at its 18 branches in Arizona and Texas. The Phoenix-based CU, with about 210 employees, already has been doing in-house training work online, and now is expanding that to include a variety of training materials from CUES Online, says Froehlich, vice president of marketing and training for the $550 million MECU-West. "We're going to be doing a little bit of everything, including compliance training, accounting and finance, financial products, lending . we'll have a lot of ways to customize this, too," she says. MECU-West's training rooms in Phoenix and Austin are equipped with PC's, so employees can be trained there as well as at their own stations, and in addition to just sitting and working alone, the credit union will begin using the classroom setting with a moderator in combination with an online feed using CUES Online material, Froehlich says. "Of course, I'm very much a people person and I always love the human element, but in many ways, in specific cases, online training serves the purpose," she says. "I just can't ever see myself completely going that way."</p>
