MADISON, Wis. – Credit unions ready to participate in the first National Credit Union Youth Week can now choose support materials at CUNA's Web site (www.cuna.org). Scheduled to run April 14 to April 20, the theme for this inaugural celebration is "Your Future. Your Money. Your Choice." According to CUNA Youth Outreach Director Philip Heckman, more than 9,000 affiliated credit unions will receive a mailing about Youth Week that includes a full size poster. Other materials available include such items as downloadable graphics for the logo and poster, celebration activity ideas, youth week clothing and educational products to name a few. Designed to encourage credit unions across the country to address the financial needs of people under the age of 18, the National Credit Union Youth Week also shines the spotlight on how credit unions can help young people wisely manage their own money. April is a busy month for younger members. The Jumpstart Coalition has designated April as National Financial Literacy for Youth Month and the National Endowment for Financial Education will announce the winners of its High School Financial Literacy Awards. CUNA is working with the Cooperative Extension System and with leagues and other credit union organizations, most notably the Education Credit Union Council and the National Youth Involvement Board to build support and awareness of National Credit Union Youth Week.
