<p>WASHINGTON – An anti-predatory lending measure designed to replace an earlier suspended law to curb mortgage lending scams won a first vote by the D.C. Council. A second required vote will take place later this month. An earlier predatory lending measure was passed in December 2000, but it was suspended a year later when some lenders pulled out of the market claiming the law was unfair and too tough. The suspension expires March 6. Consumer activists have argued the newly approved measure doesn't go far enough and doesn't contain enough consumer protection measures.
