If ever there sprouted a seed of doubt, let it shrivel up and die. Before you jot down "career change" on your list of New Year's resolutions (which you won't keep anyway), consider this: benefits still rule.
In fact, after that old-fashioned paycheck, health insurance remains the single-most important – and effective – incentive small businesses use to recruit and keep employees.
But, don't take my word for it. Look at the numbers in the latest annual employer survey published earlier this month by the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations.

The study revealed that more than half of the participating 365 small businesses said their health care premiums rose as much as 10 percent in 2007. (Course, there are a couple of days left on the calendar.)
But, an overwhelming 70 percent of business owners were quick to point out that they weren't going to raise employee contributions for health coverage in 2008.
And, speaking of those pesky resolutions, nearly 66 percent of the top companies in the country have already set up employee wellness programs, while those who haven't are certainly looking into it.
Just like me. Now, where did I leave that list of mine?
