Things haven't been this exciting in New York since a former first lady ran for Senate.

Less than a week before former Gov. Eliot Spitzer's dramatic fall from grace (more on that shortly), his successor, Attorney General Mario Cuomo confirmed that the crusade marches on.

Late last week, Cuomo fired off a fresh batch of subpoenas to Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealth and WellPoint, among others, in an ever-growing fraud investigation that rivals any witch hunt this side of Kenneth Starr.

Cuomo is going after the CEOs themselves, too, while he scrounges around in the World Wide Landfill, looking for "all e-mail correspondence involving the top executives and employees supervising claims."

Don't kid yourself; this isn't going away anytime soon.

Unlike Spitzer's stint in Albany. After barely a year in office, whatever credibility he had left is history. A single wiretap — and some sketchy texts — tossed eight years of public service out the window. Not that he was universally adored. As news of his involvement in a prostitution ring — as Client No. 9 — broke midday Monday, the floor of the New York Stock Exchange erupted in cheers. One trader even told the New York Times, "There is a God."

Somewhere, Hank Greenberg is smiling.
