We take time out this week from the increasingly bitter Democratic primary coverage to address a crisis a little closer to home.

Blame Mother Nature. Or global warming. Or even Al Gore.

Just don't worry. The 2008 edition of the Benefits Selling Expo will go on as planned in Atlanta in two weeks.

Never mind that downtown Atlanta witnessed — brutally — its first tornado in recorded history this past weekend. The twister tore through downtown quickly, rattling the Philips Arena (where the NBA's Hawks were playing), turning out the lights at the Georgia Dome (delaying the SEC conference basketball tournament) and trashing Centennial Olympic Park worse than any would-be bomber.

Along with CNN, the Omni Hotel and others, the Westin Peachtree Plaza suffered its share of broken windows as well, shutting down a handful of rooms.

The silver lining of this freak storm, however, is that — incredibly — there were no fatalities or even serious injuries.

But before you pick up the phone, we want to reassure our attendees, speakers and exhibitors alike that the show must — and will — go on.

Besides, now more than ever, the downtown Atlanta business district could use our help. So remember to bring a little extra cash to help with the Benefits Selling economic stimulus plan.
