Meritain Health announced the findings of its 2007 biometric screening assessment, which identified more than $42.4 million total potential unmanaged medical costs. The assessment, which surveyed over 10,000 members across the country, also found 100,000 days of potential productivity lost to poor health.
"Health screenings should be a part of every company's health plan in order to provide early intervention and prevent future medical conditions, which contribute to the burden of rising healthcare costs for both employers and employees," said Janice Rahm, senior vice president of product and service innovation for Meritain Health.
The assessment found a little over 40 percent of participants had untreated medical conditions, and 2.1 percent had serious conditions requiring immediate attention. It also found anxiety and depression to be the most common behavioral disorders, which can potentially lead to 39,750 days of lost productivity.
