As retailers shutter weekly and layoffs mount faster than foreclosures, could we be facing a less jolly holiday season? With consumer spending drying up faster than help wanted ads, I guess it really will be about the spirit of the season this year.
Speaking of which, as enrollment season picks up steam, it must be a particularly nerve-wracking experience this year. Employers and employees are worried about costs more than ever while wondering what bad news the next quarter will bring.

Seems to me that astute brokers can use this to their advantage. I mean, honestly, can you recall a time when employees where so desperate for advice? Sure, with more news channels filling more hours with more experts — both real and holographic — than ever before, advice might seem cheap. But you're right there in the conference room with these people, who have never needed your expertise, and confidence, more than they do now.
We've talked for years about how brokers should evolve into advisors, offering full-service solutions to a vastly underserved market. They're listening. Looks like its time to put up or shut up.
