A friend in the business called me out of the blue sometime over the last couple of weeks.

(Sorry, the days run together this time of year. Seems half my time is spent managing my daughter's budding Girl Scout cookie business.)

At any rate, this friend called to say goodbye. She was getting out. She'd had enough. See, she'd been pretty shook up ever since the election, but I passed it off as rhetoric. I know President Obama's election overjoyed some and devastated others, but at the end of the day life will go on. Right?

For a couple of days, though, this longtime veteran remained set on cutting her losses and moving on. Others convinced her nationalized health care was on its way, and we'd all be out of business.

I laughed as I pointed out, though, that the federal government she feared so much couldn't even make its own digital television deadline. And they planned that more than three years ago. (And does anyone think we'll make it in three more months?) And my boss thinks I'm bad with deadlines…

Something else to consider: Uncle Sam just ponied up another $787 billion to jumpstart the economy (again). You think the feds are really all that eager to start throwing money at health care?

Besides, I hear Chrysler needs a few more billion.
