Fifty-five percent of large employers responding to a recent survey say they are likely to choose a high deductible health plan following the passage of health care reform legislation.

The survey of more than 400 employers conducted by Fidelity Investments found high deductible plans were the most attractive plan design going forward, followed by a preferred provider organization (45 percent) and a health maintenance organization (18 percent). If the respondent's organization was already using an HDHP as one of their health care options, they were more likely to consider this plan type to be the more likely option for the future, with 60 percent of this group choosing HDHP as making the most sense for their organization.

The survey, conducted in June, also revealed most (84 percent) U.S. employers expect to revisit their health care benefit strategy this year in light of reform.
