I know we're a society obsessed with having our cake, eating it and wondering why we didn't get ice cream, too. We're entitled. We've got it so good; we think we deserve it. In fact, we deserve some of that over there, too.

And, no, I'm not riffing on obesity today. Although, if you're interested, there's a blog about how – as a society – we're apparently defining obesity itself on a sliding scale now. Let's call it a (cow) bell curve. Anyway, check it out here.

(Speaking of which, I can relate to Juan Williams. But I only get nervous when I'm stuck in the middle seat between a couple of those cake eaters.)

But I digress. What set me off this morning was this story over on Politico. Seems there's a little-known provision in the health care law (Shocking, right? Is anyone counting?) that requires insurers to summarize their health care plans into a handy-dandy four-page brochure – as if it were a religious tract or something. (If only it were as easy as staying out of hell.)

So the lawmakers have declared that while they've spent decades making insurance progressively more complicated, we suddenly have to make it simple for the consumer. In fact, an National Association of Insurance Commissioners task force has already spent five months and 65 hours worth of conference calls sorting through this mess.

I know this reads like some kind of Orwellian doublespeak nightmare, but, sadly, it's our new reality.
