The San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board, through a partnership with the California Employers Association, has announced that they’ve now helped more than 100 businesses with free human resources consulting.

Horizon Hobby Inc., a medium-sized in Ontario, Calif., company remains one of the service’s better-known success stories. Their California operations opened in 1986 with a few stumbles as they struggled to navigate the state’s myriad labor laws.

“We try to provide our managers with updated information so we’re always in compliance,” Horizon Hobby HR manager Eduardo Cruz explained. “We want to make sure all of our employees are classified correctly and we follow the letter of the law.”

Cruz learned about the California Employers Association HR Hotline funded with Workforce Investment Act funds from the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board.

The Business Resource Unit of the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board also administers the small business workshop program that’s provided roughly 1,500 companies with no-cost professionals in sales and marketing, cost-cutting, process efficiency and finance to help them strengthen their operations.
