There's something we need to talk about.

Trust me, I'm not one for confrontation, but we can't go on like this. And maybe it's just not gonna work out. Maybe it's you, maybe it's me. But we need to figure it out sooner rather than later.

The move to BenefitsPro.com involved a massive shift in the way we do business, not to mention how we cover the benefits business. And aside from the obligatory disgruntleds – both inside and out – reader response has been overwhelmingly positive. In fact, I'm sure it won't be long before there's a strikingly similar competitor out there by the end of the year.

A huge part of this new community is a more open, interactive forum that allows users to interact with us – and each other– more quickly. But that new power comes with some responsibility. We'd like this to be a home for intellectual exchange and discourse, not racist, inflammatory or otherwise ignorant rhetoric. The Huffington Post and Drudge Report are right down the (allegorical) street. And if those are too mainstream for you, the Internet is littered with sites brimming with profanity and hate. And if that's your bailiwick, then we're not for you. You're simply not welcome.

I've been a champion of free speech (and press) since a high school newspaper run-in with an over-zealous Midwestern principal 25 years ago. It's driven my entire career. But I won't tolerate racism, sexism or homophobia on this site (or any other -ism). It will get you blacklisted faster than a Jersey Shore cast member. Besides, we're better than that.

Consider this fair warning. Play nice or go home.
