A new tool can help employers combat rising employee health costs and improve health and engagement in employees. The Health Value Accelerator™ tool, developed by the nonprofit Center for Health Value Innovation (CHVI), is a user-friendly online tool that employers can use to create an immediate actionable assessment based on employee health care data and value-based strategies.

"Instead of looking at just cutting costs, we're working to help employers find ways to get more value and better results for the money they are already spending. We are focusing on health value as the outcome that will get America's businesses and communities healthy," said Cyndy Nayer, CHVI president and CEO.

The Accelerator provides a confidential and immediate assessment from data given, such as the number of employees and covered lives; total health care costs for recent years; percentage of health costs spent on medication; percentage of population diagnosed with cardio-metabolic conditions and degree of medication adherence for these conditions; and the percentage of employees taking part in health management activities.

The assessment then lets an employer see how their population compares to national and state indicators and gives recommended actions for value-based changes based on employees' risks and health conditions. The tool also gives guidance about services that can improve health status and quality of care, and how to create predictable health cost trends and shift to a culture of health.
