ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Gov. Martin O'Malley is announcing the creation of an Office of Health Care Reform and the members of a board that will oversee Maryland's Health Benefit Exchange.
Governor O'Malley signed executive orders Thursday to establish the Governor's Office of Health Care Reform, expand the Health Care Reform Coordinating Council and enhance the role of the Maryland Health Quality and Cost Council. Carolyn Quattrocki will serve as executive director of the Office of Health Care Reform.
The Health Benefit Exchange will be an online marketplace where Marylanders can compare rates, benefits and quality among health insurance plans to help them find one that best suits their needs. Such a step was required by the federal Affordable Care Act.
