AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A spokeswoman says Maine Gov. Paul LePage is "encouraged" by $6.1 billion budget that emerged from the Legislature's Appropriations Committee.
Lawmakers reached the compromise late Thursday. LePage spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett said Friday the governor hadn't reviewed the details, but said the budget is encouraging at first blush.
The bipartisan budget, adopted on a 13-0 vote, will go to the full Legislature early next week.

Lawmakers say the budget plan scales back the scope of pension reforms proposed by the Republican governor. It also includes tax cuts and welfare reform, and maintains funding for the Maine Public Broadcasting Network that the governor wanted to eliminate altogether.
Republican Sen. Roger Katz, who sits on the committee, says Democrats and Republicans gave up some things they wanted to get "the best possible compromise."
