Nonprofit organization 3in4 Need More launched its summer-long bus tour Thursday to raise awareness about long-term care planning.

The tour features spokesperson Dr. Marion Somers, an elder care expert and author.

The nation-wide campaign aims to educate people on the necessity to plan for long-term care services. The organization's name is derived from estimates that three out of four Americans will need long-term care services like assisted living, nursing homes, and more – but may not be prepared to pay for them. These services are not covered by traditional insurance or Medicare, and can cost thousands per month out-of-pocket.

"As Americans plan for retirement, most don't realize their future health care costs can use up their nest eggs within a few months," said Dr. Marion. "The simple act of planning ahead can alleviate the financial and emotional burden. This means understanding your risks, and your options – including reverse mortgages, retirement planning, federal funding, long-term care insurance, and more."

Dr. Marion is taking the 3in4 Need More bus – a souped-up, 60s Greyhound – to major US cities, offering simple tips to plan ahead for long-term care. She'll also be promoting the "Get Your Life Back" contest for those caring for aging parents and loved ones. The winner will receive an ultimate caregiver makeover valued at $50,000, furnished by One Reverse Mortgage. Enter at http://www.3in4Contest.com.

Tour sponsors include LifeSecure, MedAmerica, Mutual Omaha, One Reverse Mortgage, Prudential, Transamerica, and the 3in4 Association Advisory Board.
