DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry is telling The Associated Press that both his economic record and his experience leading a large growing state sets him apart from his Republican presidential rivals.
Perry was in the midst of his first trip to Iowa as a presidential candidate. He sought in an interview with The AP to contrast himself with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on job creation and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann on experience, though he didn't mention either by name.
Romney leads in many national Republican presidential polls, and is making the economy his focus. Bachmann won a key test vote in Iowa Saturday but has been criticized for lacking executive experience.
