And, now, for something completely different.

I've spent the last couple of weeks ripping on the now-vacationing Congress and our leaderless chief executive. I've panned the fringe element of the Republican Party that seems to have embraced ideology over governance. And I've actually ignored a Democratic opposition that's either to afraid to act or who've simply fallen asleep at the wheel.

And for two weeks I've earned the ire from both sides of the aisle, with readers from the left and the right ripping me apart for my clearly partisan hackery.

Never mind that I'm equally annoyed and disgusted with both parties right now for their mess we're in, which brings me to today's rant…

What's up with the lack of GOP and media love for Ron Paul? I mean, this guy nearly won the Iowa straw poll, losing to Bachmann by a paltry 1 percent. But all anyone could do was fawn over Bachmann's continued (perceived?) resurgence, Gov. Perry's dramatic (if-not-unexpected) entrance into the race and Tim Pawlenty's quick exit.

But Ron Paul's performance – and warm reception by Iowa voters – went virtually unnoticed by both the mainstream media and Republican Party leaders. Even Fox News ignored Paul, which is puzzling since he's got far more tea than darling Bachmann, who came late to that party. Paul, you could argue, was Tea Party before Tea Party was cool.

Could it be that the media infatuation with Bachmann be based on her gender, the same thing for which some argue she gets treated unfairly? Because it wasn't that long ago Republicans were campaigning against a young, untested Democratic candidate…

What I love most about Uncle Ron is how unscripted he can be, which is so refreshing in the sanitized political environment we now inhabit. He might be another politician, but when this guy speaks, I actually believe that he believes in what he's saying, and that's a rare find in either party these days.
