More than 1,000 new human resources job ads have included requirements for social media skills over the past 90 days, which is a 160 percent increase over the same timeframe in 2010, according to WANTED Analytics.
Recruiters and training specialists were most commonly referred to these positions. New York; Washington, D.C.; Boston; Chicago and Philadelphia are the five metropolitan areas with the highest hiring demand for HR professionals with social media skills, and New York recruiters advertised more than 100 new online jobs for HR professionals, the highest number of any city. Among these five areas, Philadelphia experienced the largest year-over-year increase at more than 400 percent.
WANTED Analytics expects the demand for social media experience to continue and recruiting conditions will be moderately difficult across the U.S. According to the Hiring Scale, approximately 10 potential candidates make up the U.S. talent pool in the work force for each open position, which means employers and staffing firms will likely have to compete heavily to find qualified candidates.
