LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees has approved a budget request that includes $20.15 million in faculty and staff salary increases.

The state Legislature next year must approve the university's budget for the 2013-14 biennium.

UW President Tom Buchanan says two consecutive years without pay adjustments has resulted in UW losing ground in its goal to ensure its salaries remain competitive in order to attract and retain high quality workers.

The university budget also requests $50 million to continue the state-private matching funds program that has funded academic endowment, academic facilities, athletics facilities and other programs.

Trustees also approved leasing UW's mineral interests in and around the James C. Hageman Sustainable Agriculture Research and Extension Center in Goshen County to Samson Oil and Gas.
