According to a Globoforce survey, 38 percent of employed Americans are considering leaving their jobs, regardless of the current economic climate and job prospects.

Additionally, 39 percent of respondents say they don't feel appreciated at work, a hike from 32 percent, and 52 percent are dissatisfied with their received recognition, a jump from 41 percent. Thus, nearly half of respondents reveal that they would switch jobs for an employer that clearly recognized employees for their efforts and contributions.

The survey also finds there is a connection between a lack of recognition and possible turnover. Of the respondents who say they anticipate looking for a new job this year only 24 percent are satisfied with the level of recognition they receive on the job while 63 percent of employees who do not plan to leave are satisfied with their recognition level.

Another 32 percent of respondents cite being recognized at work in the past three months, and 52 percent of those who do not plan to leave have been recognized in the past three months. Respondents also say they would perform better and have higher job satisfaction if their employers acknowledged their efforts and appreciated them for their work on a consistent basis. Seventy-eight percent of respondents say being recognized gives them job motivation, and 69 percent of respondents say they would work harder if they felt their efforts were better recognized

"It's been often stated that we're in the midst of a jobless recovery," says Eric Mosley, CEO of Globoforce. "While that may be true, it's critical for companies to avoid a 'thankless recovery' for their current employees, as that could have damaging consequences on employee productivity, company culture, and employee retention. Our latest survey shows that if you recognize and appreciate your employees in relevant ways, they will want to continue to work for you."
