The U.S. Department of Labor's Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans, also known as the ERISA Advisory Council, will hold a public meeting on Nov. 8 and 9 at Labor Department headquarters, 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. 20210.

The meeting will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. in room C-5515-1A on Tuesday, Nov. 8. On Wednesday, Nov. 9, the council will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in room S-2508. At the meeting, advisory council members will finalize recommendations to present to the secretary of labor on current challenges and best practices for Employee Retirement Income Security Act compliance for 403(b) plan sponsors; hedge funds and private equity investments; and privacy and security issues affecting employee benefit plans (other than health care plans).

Assistant Secretary of Labor Phyllis C. Borzi also will give an update on EBSA activities on Nov. 9.

The ERISA Advisory Council consists of 15 members appointed to staggered three-year terms by the secretary of labor. The members represent the public, employers and employee organizations, as well as the fields of insurance, corporate trust, investment management, investment counseling, accounting and actuarial counseling. The Employee Benefits Security Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Labor, oversees the council's work.

EBSA protects the retirement, health and other workplace-related benefits of America's workers and retirees, and their families. The agency oversees approximately 708,000 private-sector retirement plans, 2.8 million health plans and a similar number of other benefit plans that cover more than 150 million Americans.
