Employees are still suffering from stress, as two-thirds of employees report having high stress levels and 29 percent of employees are too stressed at work to be effective for five or more days each year, according to a recent StressPulseSM survey by ComPsych.

"As the economy continues to sputter, organizations are still doing more with less, and that can take a toll on workers," says Dr. Richard A. Chaifetz, chairman and CEO of ComPsych. "Many employees have reached a point of unprecedented burnout."

The survey also finds that 29 percent of employees come to work five or more days per year too stressed to be effective, a jump from 19 percent last year, and 66 percent of workers are experiencing sustained, high stress levels, which is slightly down from 68 percent last year.

According to the survey, the top cause of stress is still the amount of work, followed by people issues, balancing work with personal life and lack of job security.

"Forward-thinking employers are seeking to alleviate stress and help employees get refocused by providing seminars on coping with stress as well as support through employee assistance and work-life programs," Chaifetz says.
