NEW YORK (AP) — MetLife Inc. on Monday named President and CEO Steven Kandarian as its chairman effective Jan. 1, rejoining the leadership roles after eight months.

Kandarian, 59, took over the executive duties for the nation's largest life insurer on May 1, succeeding C. Robert Henrikson, who remained chairman. At that time, it was implied Kandarian would also become chairman after a transition period.

He joined the company in 2005 as its chief investment officer. In 2009, he assumed responsibility for MetLife's global brand and marketing services department.
