TALLAHASSE, Fla. (AP) — The toll of the recession and Florida's high unemployment rate will hit businesses next year as they will have to pay higher unemployment taxes.

For two years, state lawmakers have pushed back significant hikes in the state's unemployment compensation taxes. But preliminary figures released Thursday show that businesses across the state will get hit with a sizable hike in 2012.

The latest estimates show the minimum tax rate for employers is expected to jump from $72.10 per employee to $170 per employee. The maximum rate is also expected to rise from $378 to $459 per employee.
