A new program from the Principal Financial Group gives dental insurance members the flexibility to seek an opinion from two different dentists before electing a dental procedure.  The new Second Opinion Program—designed to help employees take control of their oral health—gives employees a chance to compare costs and better understand the available treatment options.  

"Employees consistently rank dental insurance as an important employee benefit they want from their employer," says Theresa McConeghey, assistant vice president of dental insurance for The Principal. "What employees and their employers may not realize is all the ways improving oral health can make a big impact on better overall health, which ultimately leads to lower dental and health care costs for employees and their employer."

Through the program, dental insurance members seeking another opinion regarding a dental procedure present a voucher to the dentist during the second opinion visit. The member can seek second opinions on an unlimited basis, often at no additional cost.
