Any way you look at it, small businesses have it tough in the world, and there's certainly no one in Washington making things easier for them these days. I've heard it argued by supporters on both sides of the aisle how the other side is terrible for small businesses. Rarely have I heard anyone say their own side was great, but that's another story.
It's sad, too, because in my experience small businesses seem to be the ones most willing to give back to the community and their employees, and by not supporting them we're not really paying forward that generosity.
Just look at 401(k) contributions.

The average small business employer paid contributions in 2010 that amounted to around 4.2 percent of net plan assets, compared to 6 percent paid by their employees.
Participants in much larger plans also contributed amounts equal to roughly 6 percent of net plan assets. However, their bosses only paid 2.8 percent. That's a third less than the small business sponsors.
Looked at another way, you can say that small business owners are 33 percent more generous than their plutocratic, tycoony counterparts.
