Twitter's just not for tweens. And Facebook's not just for friends.
We all know LinkedIn's a boon for business, so it was only a matter of time before business owners jumped aboard the other social networks to shore up their recruiting efforts. More companies than ever before are scouring social networks for talent.
A new survey, Jobvite's Social Recruiting Survey 2012 reveals a whopping 92 percent of employers are looking for candidates online this year, a big jump over last year's 78 percent half a decade earlier.

While LinkedIn's still the leader for job providers, more than two-thirds of companies recruit through Facebook now, as well, with nearly 55 percent using Twitter.
The best part is that it's actually working. Nearly 75 percent of employers say they have successfully hired a candidate through social media – with particular networks breaking it down like this:
- 89 percent hired from LinkedIn
- 25 percent through Facebook
- 15 percent through Twitter.
(Which begs the question – just how in the world do you get a job from Twitter? I mean, the other two I get, but I'm unclear on how you squeeze want ads into the Twitterverse. Anyone wanna help me out with this one?)
On the flip side, one in six people on the job right now got there through social media. And while the presence of all these different social networks seems ubiquitous now, it's still growing. It's a brave new world, and employers who aren't already out there working social media are woefully behind. Catching up won't be easy.
