Before you start, this is not a pro-Obama (Probama?) piece. I'm not taking a stand on PPACA/Obamacare one way or another. I'm taking a very Buddhist, meditative approach: It's not good or bad, it's simply there. And there's nothing I can do about it.
From what I gather reading comments by readers on BenefitsPro, most brokers are not in favor of the reforms (big surprise).
Change is scary, and a lot of these changes have the potential to hurt the broker community. It reminds me a lot of the fracas that happens whenever Facebook changes their interface.

But here's the thing: Whether you're talking about health exchanges or Facebook Timeline, the change is happening. There's nothing you can do about it. Is there a chance things might get reverted or repealed? Sure, but that doesn't alter the reality that in the here and now PPACA is something you need to deal with.
Sometimes laws are passed that we plain just don't like, and it takes the right kind of person to take that feeling of injustice and turn it to their advantage. Stop complained and make some lemonade.
Here's an example: There's a county nearby with some antiquated and complex liquor laws. As a way of discouraging excessive drinking during afternoon rush hour, they banned happy hour specials on alcoholic beverages.
Obviously bars and restaurants were up in arms over how this would affect their business, but a few enterprising restaurateurs realized that the ban did not extend to food. They developed clever promotions that allowed them to bring in even more customers than they did with the now illegal alcohol-centric happy hours based around smaller, more cost effective versions of their more popular dishes. The first places to figure this out became more popular than ever, and soon the whole industry was back on an even keel.
You can't fight city hall, but maybe there are ways for the clever broker to actually improve their income by taking advantage of hard-to-find opportunities presented by Obamacare.
Have you reached out to small businesses in your market to talk about health exchanges? Have you communicated with your competitors' clients about how much better equipped you are to deal with the tougher regulatory atmosphere? There's gold in those hills.
So how are you taking advantage of a bad situation?
Like my father says, when the wind of change blows, some people build walls, others build windmills.
