What's on the menu for most Americans? Not a healthy meal.

When it comes to choosing a restaurant, most people don't take healthiness into account.

The market research company Technomic found that 21 percent of members of Generation X—people born 1965 to 1982—chose either "often" or "very often" when asked: "How often do you choose restaurants based on the healthfulness of their menu?"

It's even less for baby boomers at just 18 percent.

The healthiest generation is the youngest: 31 percent of millennials, those born from 1982 to 2000, say they take healthy food options into account.

A recent report found that more than one-third of residents in 12 states are now obese. States with the highest obesity rates are mainly in the Midwest and South.
