Texas employers added 36,600 positions in October, marking its highest growth since January and making it the top state for job creation in the United States, according to data from job site Employment Crossing.
Much of the job creation is attributed to an improving state housing market and overall growth among consumer confidence, which has produced greater spending, the data finds. There are now 143,000 active job openings in Texas.
With these new positions, the Texas unemployment rate is down from 6.8 percent in September to 6.6 percent, both of which are lower than the national average of 7.9 percent. Nationally, 171,000 net jobs were created in October, meaning Texas accounted for nearly one-fifth of the new jobs.
