More employers are throwing holiday parties this year as 72 percent of employers plan to hold an event, a jump from 68 percent in 2011 and 61 percent in 2009 and 2010, according to a survey by the Society for Human Resource Management.

Meanwhile, only 10 percent of respondents report that financial hardships have caused them to cut back on holiday parties, marking a decline from 20 percent in 2009.

While 68 percent of respondents host off-site holiday parties, approximately a quarter of respondents are holding on-site holiday parties. Of the respondents hosting on-site holiday parties, 7 percent report doing so to save money.
